About Us

The initiators of reviving the orchestra were double bassist Zsolt Bóni and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning cimbalom artist Károly Vadász, who decided to bring the ensemble with its great traditions back to life.

One of Hungary’s best-known and most outstanding young lead violinists, János Johan, who has been active as a concertmaster and bandleader for more than twenty years, has taken on the role of musical director and principal lead violinist. This marks the beginning of a new, inspiring era in the leadership of the orchestra, in which respect for tradition meets a fresh, creative approach, and where the values of the past and new ideas together shape the future.

Ferenc Sánta Jr. had previously invited him several times as a guest lead violinist – thus this choice is a worthy continuation of the spiritual legacy of the great predecessor. The goal is to once again make the Hungarian National Gypsy Orchestra an active and prestigious presence on both the domestic and international stage.

The Orchestra

The orchestra is made up of award-winning, experienced artists — including Liszt Prize laureates and performers with state decorations — who are among the finest representatives of Hungarian and Gypsy musical traditions. With passion, they preserve the power of Gypsy music, the beauty of folk music, and the elegance of classical compositions.

Outstanding technique and many years of stage experience ensure that every concert is an unforgettable and captivating experience.
